Cleaner air, cleaner surfaces, and a cleaner planet, all powered by light.

One invisible nanomesh and the surface comes alive: it breaks down pollutants, cleans the air and gives something back to the environment every day.

What is PURETi?

PURETi is a technology developed together with NASA: a liquid used to coat spacecraft and their laboratories. PURETi works on the principle of photocatalysis, a process similar to photosynthesis.

It creates an invisible shield on almost any surface that repels dust and breaks down organic contamination. The process is triggered by sunlight or lamplight. It transforms pollutants into harmless mineral salts, a little CO₂ and H₂O. From the air it extracts the harmful, environment-polluting gases such as industrial gases (NOx, SOx, O₃), and the volatile organic compounds released by paints, furniture and cleaning products (VOC). The whole process is perceptible — and, not incidentally, measurable and detectable with various instruments.

What does this mean in practice?

This nanomesh, an invisible shield, stays active for years without damage (its durability is backed by an international guarantee), so every cleaning cycle comes with less water, chemicals and labour.

Why is this good in practice?

Thanks to the light-activated process, one square metre of PURETi-treated surface neutralises as much nitrogen dioxide per year as a mature tree. So it saves your company money — and helps the planet too.

Horizon 2020 – iSCAPE project

Horizon 2020 is the European Union's largest research and innovation programme. PURETi participated as a partner in the funded iSCAPE project, which used PURETi technology to study how air quality in European cities could be improved. Working with European universities, research institutes and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, the project examined its impact in real urban environments. Grant agreement: 689954.

Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label

The foundation awards its Efficient Solution Label only to solutions assessed by independent experts that protect the environment and are economically viable. PURETi Coat 4.0 received this recognition in February 2024 as a photocatalytic coating that transforms almost any surface into an air-cleaning surface.

The PURETi story

1967

Japan: photocatalysis discovered

At the University of Tokyo, Japanese researcher Akira Fujishima discovered that titanium dioxide can break down water and organic matter when exposed to sunlight. This discovery became the basis of all modern photocatalytic coatings.

2012

NASA

PURETi coating was tested at NASA's Stennis Space Center to keep buildings clean. Following successful tests, NASA and PURETi formed a Dual Use Technology partnership.

2013

Spain

PURETi's European centre was established near Barcelona and, further developing the technology, created PURETi Visible Light 4.0, which is activated even by lamp light.

2016

Horizon 2020 and iSCAPE

PURETi joined the EU Horizon 2020-funded iSCAPE project, which studied ways to improve urban air quality.

2024

Solar Impulse recognition

PURETi Coat 4.0 received the Solar Impulse Foundation's Efficient Solution Label.

2026

PURETi Hungary

PURETi Hungary Kft. was established to bring the technology to Hungarian buildings, institutions and companies. PURETi is now also present in the USA, Spain, Italy, France, Norway and Mexico.
